Johnson Matthey Medical’s San Diego micromachining facility has completed a multi-million dollar expansion in order to integrate the operations of the company’s former Temecula, Calif., site. The company’s micromachining capabilities include wire EDM, grinding, milling, turning, coating and electroplating.
The expansion and move are designed to streamline operations, promote greater manufacturing efficiency and decrease inter-company transfer of materials. To that end, Johnson Matthey added 7,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space to the 34, 000-sq.-ft. San Diego site and placed all machining operations under one roof. The additional space enables the facility to increase production capacity and increase the size and capabilities of its engineering and development center.
Johnson Matthey machines, draws, rolls and forms platinum, nitinol and specialty metals/alloys to custom specifications. The company specializes in metallurgical processing, engineering and custom alloy development.
