Default Noble UltraLight laser for athermal machining

Medical device manufacturer Norman Noble Inc. has introduced its Noble UltraLight, an athermal, ultrashort-pulse laser for machining intricate features in materials ranging from bioabsorbable polymers to shape-memory metals and exotic alloys--without producing a heat-affected zone.

The Norman Noble logo was machined in this bioabsorbable stent with the
Noble UltraLight technology.

With its ability to machine athermally, the Noble UltraLight reduces--an in some cases eliminates--the need for deburring and other post-processing procedures. The Highland Heights, Ohio-based manufacturer's ultrafast technology also enables users to machine features in materials for vascular stents with minimal variability. Other applications include the manufacture of drug delivery systems, catheter devices, valves and needles.

The Noble UltraLight's core technology, the Smart Light ultrafast laser platform, was supplied by Raydiance Corp., Petaluma, Calif.
